Junior Sailing

CCYC's Junior Fleet is a parent-involved group that aims to encourage and develop the sailing and water-related skills of our children (ages 7 to 18) through instructional and peer-to-peer interaction in a structured yet fun and social educational environment. Junior Fleet was re-established in 1996 to develop knowledgeable youth sailors and instill in them a love of the sport of boating that will serve as a foundation for their future and that of CCYC. No previous sailing experience is necessary to join Junior Fleet. Any parents interested in getting more involved in sailing and volunteering should contact Barbara Dael.

Junior Fleet Information

Beginners start sailing in the Prams and aim for sailing on the Optis. They work on learning how to properly rig the boats and the basics of sailing. Beginners are of all ages and it is the first step in building their confidence on the water.

Designed for those who have mastered sailing the Prams and are ready for the next step. This level includes improving sailing techniques and learning how to get the most out of the boat by building skills in speed and accuracy.

For sailors who have successfully conquered the first two levels and are ready to implement their knowledge in the world of racing. This level includes many races on the 420s.

In Partnership with the Chicago Park District we are now offering High School Spring and Fall Sailing. This 420 race-oriented program is suited for 13-18 year old. During spring and fall, certified racing instructors teach Tuesdays and Thursdays for approximately 8 weeks. Please contact David Stix (773.334.9100 xt.4) for more information.
